READY FOR THE NITTY GRITTY? READ ALL RULES IN GREATER DETAIL BELOW:
1. REGISTER:
Team captain to fill out on behalf of group, which can be as few as TWO (2) people, the official Hollywood Challenge Registration Form (download) and send to auditions@showbizzle.com during the Submission Period (February 22 through April 1, 2010).
- THE PREMISE: Tell a three-part story about "the time Tinseltown invaded your campus."
- THE BACKSTORY: a big-time Hollywood production company (think Lionsgate or Paramount) is either
- THE GUIDELINES:
- Members of your group can play any kind of character you can imagine: Hollywood heavyweights, college kids (star-struck, or not), diva starlets, showbiz predators on the prowl, ego-centric student auteurs, frazzled professors, or even gangs of trash-talking wood nymphs if it somehow fits with your story.
- We're looking for story-telling that demonstrates your narrative ingenuity and high-quality performance and writing ability.
- All content must be original material
- All entries must consist of a story told in three parts (we refer to each of these parts as a 'beat').
- Ultimately all three beats should be edited into the ONE movie file that you will submit to the Hollywood Challenge.
- The way you distribute the storytelling over the course of the three beats is up to you:
- Your three beats can be presented in a straightforward "beginning, middle, end" type of format.
- Or you can mix up the order of your story-telling by incorporating flashbacks or telling the whole story in reverse.
- Any creative structural idea you can concoct is up for grabs - as long as it is segmented into three parts.
- The length of each one of your three beats is up to you to determine, but please make sure that the combined running time of all three beats does not exceed TEN MINUTES.
- We encourage you to keep your videos on the shorter side, as we have generally found shorter running times to be more successful on the Internet. (Only your parents, and maybe not even your parents, want to watch every moment of your face onscreen.) There is no minimum running time for your overall three-part submission.
- Note about video production quality:
- We know you guys are improvisers extraordinaire, so bring that spur-of-the-moment energy to your movie. Videos do not need to be shot in high-definition. Fancy sets and elaborate costumes are ok but NOT required. The backdrop for your videos can be as simple as a big blank stage.
- We do ask that you take it easy on nudity, cussing and inflammatory comments about race or creed. Keep it PG-13 please.
Once you've shot and edited your three beats into ONE VIDEO FILE, upload your video to YouTube, and email the link to auditions@showbizzle.com.
- Your HC video will be featured on the showbizzle.com website
- Airfare to and from Los Angeles for no more than five (5) members of your group, plus two-night hotel stay; "locals" receive cash equivalent.
- A meet-and-greet with Charles Rosin, showbizzle co-creator, and the showrunner of the original "Beverly Hills, 90210", to discuss possible future creative relationship between your group and showbizzle
- A screening of the winning video at the Chicago Improv Festival, to take place in Chicago, Illinois, between April 19th and April 25th, 2010
- Actual cash value of all perks will be no greater than $3,500.
