Jami Rudofsky (Gilmore Girls; Beautiful People, The Lake) and Karen P. Morris (Burn Notice, Charmed, Fast Girls) are your basic best of friends. They go to plays together. They walk their dogs together. They both live in Echo Park, and fortunately for us, they like bizzlers and like being bizzled.(*)
Jami and Karen were with us in the audition room at Actorfest a couple of weeks ago when we filmed 117 of our members performing one of four original showbizzle monologues for our Talent Search: The Cold Read.
They were largely impressed with the quality of cold reading skills they saw, and have particularly nice things to say about our cold read favorites: Christina Howard, Jenáe Thompson, Marcela Mariz, Quynh Samel, and Carleton, Bluford, who will all be given a featured slot on showbizzle's Digital Showcase. Jami's comments are in bold. Karen's are in italics.
Monday: (11/30; 12/7) Christina Howard performs "The Headshot" by Lindsey Rosin.
jr - great energy and pulls the audience in with her comedy chops and likeability.
kpm -- Christina has nice comic timing. She really felt like she connected to the character & made the piece her own.
Tuesday: (12/1; 12/8) Jenáe Thompson performs "CAA" by Jesse Spears.
jr- I like the fact that Jenae is very casual in her piece. It feels like a real conversation and does not feel “Actory”.
kpm - Jenáe is very likable & has a great smile. She seems to get the basic tone of the piece right away.
Wednesday: (12/2; 12/9) Marcela Mariz performs "The Ingenue" by Charles Rosin.
jr- Marcela has a natural naiveté that works with the character, she really brought her own essence to the part and that’s why it works.
kpm - Marcela does a very good job with the language & humor of this piece.
Thursday: (12/3; 12/10) Quynh Samel performs "I Need an ID" by Karen Rosin.
jr-I actually sat in on this audition and she impressed me right off the bat. She has great comic timing and I could tell she thought a lot about the piece before she came in.
kpm - Quynh has a great look & good sarcasm for this piece.
Friday: (12/4; 12/11) Carleton Bluford performs "The Headshot" by Lindsey Rosin.
jr- Carleton really grounded the character making the piece very believable.
kpm- Carleton has a nice confidence & a winning smile that work well in this piece.
